great timing...
We are off on Thursday for the wild west and a nice adventure to Holden. This seems to be perfect timing as I am not completely fried, but yet really feel the need to do some reflecting, conversing and planning after a crazy January. I can already feel a deep sense of joy as I realize I am not 'on' Sunday for a sermon, creativity, etc... Thankfully Jo Q. is covering that one! How wonderful.
Regarding the cottage meetings, without fail, when the topic comes up individuals ask if their group said the same thing as other groups. They are excited to hear what was heard. The neat thing is that what I heard was encouraging. It showed a break from past hangups they have had in the last decade. My predecessor had a wonderful ministry here of forming relationships, theological integrity and consistency.
Anyone have experience with 'Frogs without Legs can't hear' yet? It appears that they have a great series available that goes along with the book. My understanding is that it addresses spiritual maturity and the family level. It sounds wonderful.

have a great time chad. "Frogs" is pretty popular around here in the youth and family set. i haven't used the resources, but i know it encourages family participation which is huge in doing real faith formation.
however, i will say, when you start "requiring" family participation, be prepared for some disbelief (eg. "you mean we have to do something for our kids in confirmation? Isn't that why we hired you").
but hey, did we think this would be easy? have a great time at holden, we are very jealous.
Hey Chad,
I worked with David Anderson when they were writing "Frogs". I would hear him promote the book and the cirriculum. Still, I haven't read it.
I do know David Anderson, and I can probably guess pretty well what's in there. It's going to be an outline of the four keys of family devotion, ritual and tradition, caring conversation, and family service. These are the ways to live out your faith in the home.
David Anderson and Paul Hill also have just written a book on young male spirituality. I haven't read it, but I'm awaiting a review.
have a great time; i'm sure you're very ready to have some time away. i assume you'll see the ruen's, if so, greet them for us.
one person that used frogs a lot in the recent past is our friend scott mcanally in metro d.c. if you'd like, i can get you his contact info.
i'm thrilled to hear that your cottage meetings are going so well. you are in a privileged position to hear their fears and their dreams, and i know you are a great facilitator, so i'm sure it was a beneficial time for anyone who came. i'm intrigued by the idea of a forum to present the perspectives you heard; let me know if you come up with a good avenue for that.
Kendi, I am thinking of using it as fuel for the planning I do for the upcoming year which will start in Sept. I hope to use it to justify the programming and planning that I do. I hope that it will create some ownership in the various programs--or blow up in my face. I am pulling for the second option. Paz
chad,
have a great time at holden- tell the ruens hi (if they are still there). hope it refreshes you and fuels you for your ministry.
