first week

Being in the middle of the first week of a new job is a very interesting proposition. You feel a bit like you are not sure what you should be doing. In many ways this is how I feel starting this pastor thing. In another way I feel so trusted with the responsibility I have that it is a great honor just being given the time to get my feet on the ground.

My first week has been pretty quiet. I have been mulling around the church office trying to get settled in for one. It is interesting as the previous pastor did not use the office very much so people are definitely not used to stopping by. I sure hope that changes.

The neat thing about this week is how many times I have been told how wonderful the people are whom I will be partnering with. I have received several calls from pastors in the area welcoming me and believe it or not one of them is an avid fisherman. Most importantly I have a wife who is so willing to be patient and slowly meet alongside me the people we will come to love in our Lord.

We have a beautiful parsonage in a quaint little valley. It is peaceful here and we have enjoyed biking, jogging, and walking around the area. In our enjoyed solitude we are very thankful for a DSL connection. It is our plan to become a wireless hotspot! We have also compiled a list of 60 things that we need to get in the near future. 450 ft2 to 2000ft2 or so is a huge change. We can fill about one room for now...

THIS JOURNEY is about my joys and attempts as a pastor in God's church. I am sure I will reflect back on these days with many smiles. It is my attempt to remind myself daily to love people and remember that I am loved.

it is a very exciting time for the two of you!!! as you begin to settle in, i am sure that many more folks will revel at the opportunity to stop in the office and visit with the reverend.

i will have to cross the big river sometime to visit your valley...have you renamed it yet? i might have to wait until the hot spot improvements are made!!

Chad,

Great to see you have joined the world of blogging. I am excited to watch your journey from here- and to journey with you through many of the same things as first time clergy- know you are in our prayers as you and Aly both begin something new.
